Picture: Dorset Echo/PA A PERVERT believed he was sending nude photographs of himself and sexually chatting to a 13-year-old girl’, but was actually being caught in a police sting, a court heard. Philip Michael James Lewis, aged 44, was caught in a police operation into sexual crime in Dorset after he used the Kik messaging service to sexually communicate with who he thought was a teenager called Holly. Prosecuting, Siobhan Oxley, explained to Weymouth Magistrates’ Court how police officers had set up a decoy and began communicating with Lewis between September 13 and October 29, 2020.
Representing himself, Whyte revealed he was unemployed but had attended a job interview before the court hearing. When asked why he had the cannabis, Whyte simply said: “It was casual use. It was just that.” Whyte also claimed the amount was not five grams, but instead 3.3grams, and described it as ‘small amount’. Magistrates issued him a £80 fine and ordered him to pay £34 victim surcharge and costs of £40. Chair of Bench, Mr Fearn added: Even those it was for casual use, it is still illegal. You should not be taking cannabis or be in possession of it - it is a criminal offence.”
A DRINK driver who got behind the wheel following a catch-up with friends at a pub has been given a 20-month ban from the roads. Jonathan Woodley, aged 53, was behind the wheel of a Ford Focus driving to the address of his estranged wife in Wilson Road, Dorchester on Sunday, June 20. Police officers investigating a tip-off from a concerned member of the public attended the address and breathalysed him after he claimed he had just drunk some beer indoors. Prosecuting, Richard Oakley, told Weymouth Magistrates’ Court how Woodley answered the door at the address. He said: “At about 6.20pm on June 20, police received information that the defendant was believed to have driven whilst drunk to an address in Dorchester.
Weymouth Magistrates Court A MAN was unaware that sweets he consumed to ‘relax’ contained cannabis, a court heard. Brendon Lee Goodwin, aged 25, was visited by police officers at his then-Dorchester property to arrest him on suspicion of assault before 5pm on November 17, 2020. Prosecuting, Richard Oakley, told Weymouth Magistrates’ Court that the sweets were found during a search of Goodwin. He said: “He was searched and officers found a sealed pocket of what appeared to be sweets but then were discovered to be drugs. “They were seized and he was arrested. “He was released under investigation and the sweets were found to contain 26.45g of Tetrahydrocannabinol, which is a cannabinoid and unlawful to possess.”
After being removed, Pitt-Pladdy was arrested and escorted to Dorset County Hospital where a sample of blood was taken for analysis. Tests showed there was 245 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of his blood. The drink drive limit is 80 milligrams. In interview, Pitt-Pladdy explained he was ‘startled’ by the officers who awoke him and he ‘panicked’. Mr Oakley said: “He said he had depression, suffered from anxiety and was on medication. “Earlier in the day, he had been driving to work but he couldn’t due to his anxiety. He spent all day trying to calm down.” Pitt-Pladdy, of East Street, Beaminster, pleaded guilty to drink driving and failed to stop a vehicle when required by police.
