Salvation Army to host food drive

“We are currently processing orders received last week. We have nearly met our sales goal for Bubble Up and are super excited to be working with the Weyburn Salvation Army, as 10 per cent of the total sales earnings will be given to them,” said Jamie Borshowa, co-president of the student company, along with Risa Burdan. “We have introduced a limited-edition scent, which is Peppermint for $9.50,” she said. “We also have Bubble Bundles for $24. For the Bubble Bundles we are using our original scents (lavender, coconut, lemongrass, and unscented) and colours can be customized (pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple), but not the limited-edition Peppermint.”
Crescent Point Place facility employees were teamed with the Weyburn Red Wings and Weimer’s Hometown. The Weyburn Leisure Centre was teamed with the Weyburn Artistic Swimming and other pool users. Both these teams raised 250 pounds for the Weyburn Salvation Army. City Hall was teamed with the Weyburn Credit Union, and this team raised 573 pounds. The Water Treatment Plant was teamed with the Weyburn Fire Department and Whitecap Resources. Public Works was teamed with A&B Concrete. Both these teams raised 830 pounds. The Police Department was teamed with Barber Motors. This team won the competition by collecting 961 pounds. The food collection was held to fill the void that might have been felt, since there was no physical CP Holiday Train this year, just a virtual event. As the Salvation Army wasn’t necessarily sure about a public food drive, city employees and the staff of the organizations held internal food collections for the Salvation Army. The only public bins were a
“Our school lunch program was new this year, and also was beneficial to many in the community. During April, May and June, we gave out about 100 lunches per day. We helped many in need and had great support from the community for this outreach.” The Thrift Store part of the Weyburn Salvation Army had to close from the middle of March until June. Fortunately, the Salvation Army still received a lot of overwhelming support from the community during this time. “Another challenge we have seen is that many who would not normally need help have reached out for support due to COVID,” said Fanning. “Our numbers have increased and with the help of the community, we have been able to meet the needs of the rising numbers. The Food Bank has seen an increase each month with new families coming in.”
