FREEPORT – Richard John Gilman, 81, of Freeport, formerly of Wallingford, Conn., passed away peacefully on May 29, 2021.
Richard was born in Meriden, Conn. on Oct. 18, 1939, the son of Veronica S. and Wilfred G. Gilman Sr. He lived most of his life in Wallingford and attended Holy Trinity School. Richard and his family moved to Vermont during his high school years. He graduated from Black River High School in Ludlow, Vt., and went on to attend Vermont Technical College in Randolph. During his years in Vermont, his family owned a chicken farm. Richard worked the family farm for over six years while attending school and cared for the chickens daily, helping to raise over 40,000 chickens annually.

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Flight Academy (VFA) is working with Burlington International Airport (BTV) neighbor, BETA Technologies (BETA) to launch
FLIGHT VT, an initiative that aims to inspire and empower youth by providing them with the opportunity to fly a plane. The program was first launched as a one-day pilot (pun intended) last year and was so successful, VFA is expanding this summer to three days. As many as 100 youth will join VFA and BETA certified flight instructors to fly planes over their hometowns.

NORWICH The Upper Valley Land Trust is negotiating leases with two farmers who plan to graze animals and grow forage on farmland surrounding the home of the Norwich Farm Creamery.The lease arrangements, which the Hanover-based land trust announced.
