NRC approves indirect license transfer for Vermont Yankee

Like us on Facebook.   VERNON — The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has approved what it calls an indirect license transfer of the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant site to a corporate partner of NorthStar Nuclear Decommissioning Co. LLC. NorthStar and its parent company, John F. Lehman GP Investors, are going through a corporate reorganization, which will put the owner of the West Texas nuclear waste disposal site, Waste Control Specialists — where the vast majority of the remains of Vermont Yankee are headed — at the top of the ownership pyramid of Vermont Yankee, according to the NRC decision.

4:17 The Burlington, Vermont City Council had a packed agenda Monday evening.  The council approved a new leader for the city’s Community and Economic Development Office, requiring the resignation of a councilor. It also reviewed a rate increase request from the city electric department. Last week Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger announced the appointment of Brian Pine to lead the city’s Community and Economic Development Office, generally known as CEDO, which requires city council approval.  Pine, Ward 3 Progressive city councilor, had to resign from the council to take the post.  “My love for Burlington made the decision pretty easy when the mayor asked if I would consider taking on the role of CEDO director, Pine said. Site visit scheduled for proposed solar generation project

Like us on Facebook.   MANCHESTER — Neighbors and opponents of a proposed 500-kilowatt solar group net-metered electric generation facility on Richville Road in Manchester are planning to show up en masse at a scheduled site visit set by the Vermont Public Utility Commission on Tuesday. The site visit was set at a May 10 evidentiary hearing as part of the application by MHG Solar LLC, which is seeking a Certificate of Public Good for the project. The plan is to develop a little more than 8 acres of an open field located on Richville Road across from Green Mountain Road into a solar generation facility.
