Labor announces UI Contribution Rate and Maximum Weekly Benefit Amount increase

Thu, 07/01/2021 - 4:28pm tim Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Department of Labor Unemployment Insurance (UI) program has announced that the state’s UI contribution rate will index up to Tax Schedule III and the maximum Weekly Benefit Amount (WBA) will increase to $583 per week. Both changes take effect today, July 1, 2021, and are in accordance with existing state statute. The UI tax structure for Vermont’s “covered” employers is calculated annually and is adjusted to ensure solvency of the UI benefit trust fund. Under Act 51 of the 2021 legislative session, the tax rate calculation was adjusted in order to provide measured relief to employers. This adjustment ensured the UI tax schedule only increased by two levels, from Schedule I to Schedule III.

State launches wetland mapping project, invites public to participate

Fri, 05/14/2021 - 11:20am tim Vermont Business Magazine The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) invites people to take part in a new statewide community mapping project to improve state maps of where wetlands occur. People can submit observations of the wetland species they find by using the free iNaturalist website or phone app and upload these observations to the iNaturalist Vermont Wetland Mapping Project . “By using this crowd-sourcing approach, community members can help us add to and update our existing information,” said Brock Freyer, DEC District Wetlands Ecologist. “This will allow us to offer high quality wetland maps to the public. These maps will help Vermonters plan and develop projects to avoid wetlands and assist in wetland preservation and restoration efforts.”
