Statement from Labor Commissioner Harrington on Koffee Kup/Vermont Bread closure

Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Department of Labor Commissioner Michael Harrington today issued the following statement: “On Monday April 26, 2021, the Vermont Department of Labor received formal notification from Koffee Kup Bakery (KKB), in the form of a Notice of Potential Layoff (also referred to as a WARN Notice), that the company was ceasing operations at its Burlington and Brattleboro facilities effective immediately. In an effort to immediately support the roughly 250 Vermonters who have lost their jobs, our Workforce Development and Unemployment Insurance divisions have begun the process of coordinating Rapid Response services. Additionally, a number of employers across the state have contacted the Department of Labor interested in hiring individuals who were impacted by this closure.

Newport Correctional Facility reports 10 more COVID-19 cases | Vermont Business Magazine

Thu, 03/11/2021 - 11:58am tim Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Department of Corrections (Vermont DOC) is reporting nine new cases of COVID-19 among incarcerated individuals and one new staff case in the outbreak at Northern State Correctional Facility (NSCF) in Newport. The cases were detected in testing conducted March 8. The outbreak began after one staff member and 21 incarcerated individuals tested positive for the virus in testing conducted February 23, 2021. There are currently 115 positive incarcerated cases and 12 positive staff cases at the facility. By Friday, 106 positive incarcerated individuals will be medically cleared to leave isolation at NSCF, which means they are no longer considered COVID-positive or exhibiting symptoms of the virus. This will bring the total number of positive incarcerated cases to 13. The entire facility is being tested again today and has been in full lockdown since receipt of the first positive results on February 25.

Sat, 02/27/2021 - 11:51am tim Vermont Business Magazine Vermont Department of Corrections (Vermont DOC) is reporting a Covid-19 outbreak at Northern State Correctional Facility (NSCF) in Newport after one staff member and 21 incarcerated individuals tested positive for the virus. The 22 total cases were detected in testing conducted February 23, 2021.  The facility was placed in full lockdown upon receipt of the positive results on February 25. Contact tracing is underway, and Vermont DOC and Vermont Health Department’s Rapid Response Team are outlining follow-up actions and testing.  In addition to the cases at NSCF, a staff member from Middlebury Probation and Parole (MIPP) also tested positive on February 23. As of Friday, a total of six staff and 30 incarcerated individuals are positive for the virus.
