RESIGN: Council says goodbye to member HERE are the latest announcements from our community news correspondent Kathryn Smith for Burton-in-Kendal. There were no announcements from the chairman at the February parish council meeting, but the clerk reported in response to queries about the future role of the butchers shop she could find no evidence through SLDC of an application to convert it to a Chinese takeaway. The planning application for Fern Bank met with no objections but the council would comment that this, and all applications for an extra dwelling, should make provision for at least one parking space. Following the resignation of Jane Hague, the council now has eight councillors.
AT THE parish council meeting it was announced that Cllr Jane Haigh had resigned from the council with immediate effect. The resulting casual vacancy will be an agenda item at the February meeting. At the Open Forum, a resident explained that an alteration to the original planning permission given for the development of the Royal Hotel had resulted in the erection of a fence which blocked a gate which was his rear exit. The amendment had not been seen either by the parish council or the affected residents but the council explained that, as the new plan had been approved by South Lakeland District Council (SLDC), this matter would have to be pursued with SLDC.
PLANS: Parking issues raised to council A ROUND-UP of the news and events from Burton in Kendal from our community news correspondent Kathryn Smith Pipe. There was no police report to the Parish council meeting at the Open Forum and the issue of parking, of concern to some residents, was discussed under a later agenda item. Reports from district and county councillors concentrated on the proposed local government reorganisation and highways. The reorganisation proposal from SLDC would be for a Morecambe Bay authority comprising Barrow, South Lakes and Lancaster although this presents other problems such as policing and would need Whitehall dispensation.
