Union Gap Costco Remains Open Despite Covid-19 Outbreak The Yakima Health District is investigating a Covid-19 outbreak at Costco. After testing was done, it s been confirmed that 145 employees of Costco s Union Gap location tested positive for the virus. All the positive tested employees are currently completing their isolation or quarantine. According to a press release from the Yakima Health District: “At this point in time, all positive cases have been identified and sent home. Weekly sitewide testing will ensure that any new cases that occur, will be promptly identified, and those staff members will also be directed to isolate and quarantine. This, in addition to ensuring that Costco, and its shoppers, continue to follow the proper COVID-19 safety precautions, will mitigate the risk for potential COVID-19 infection.” Dr. Larry Jecha, Interim Health Officer

Sunnyside Testing Site Finds Numerous Covid Cases Yakima Health District officials say a COVID-19 testing site at the Sunnyside Community Center has detected a high percentage of positive cases in the county. A news release says in the just the first week of testing the site performed 561 tests with 21.6% being positive COVID-19 tests. Health officials say they know there s a high level of community spread happening in the county. Dr. Larry Jecha, Interim Health Officer in Yakima says they strong urge everyone to get tested if they have symptoms or suspect they may have COVID-19. The free testing site is open Sunday to Thursday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm except on Tuesdays, when it opens from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.. The site will be closed on Christmas Eve, December 24, but will provide testing on December 26 from 9:00 a.m.  to 3:00 p.m.
