Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will arrive here on a two-day visit on Tuesday (today), on trip aimed at further deepening and broadening the relationship between Islamabad and Moscow, the Foreign Office announced on Monday.
Lavrov, who will be accompanied by the Russia’s Special Envoy on Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov, will be flying in to Islamabad from New Delhi, in a move suggesting that Moscow is no longer considering India as its only ally in the region.

Russia Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is scheduled to arrive in Islamabad on a two-day visit on Tuesday (today) for talks on bilateral and regional matters, with special focus on both countries’ cooperation to push for a political solution to the Afghan conflict.
Lavrov will lead a 13-member delegation that also includes Russian special envoy for Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova and several other senior officials, according to a list of the delegates seen by Daily Times.

Ahead of the Russian foreign minister s visit, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that Sergey Lavrov s visit today holds crucial importance for mutual ties and the Afghan peace process. The two sides will deliberate on boosting mutual relations, Qureshi said in a video message prior to the arrival of the Russian dignitary.
During the two-day visit, he added, the minister will meet Prime Minister Imran Khan, Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, and participate in the delegation-level talks.
