Iran Shouldn t Use British Nationals as Political Leverage, Says UK Minister

Iran Shouldn’t Use British Nationals as ‘Political Leverage,’ Says UK Minister The Iranian regime shouldn’t use British dual nationals as “political leverage,” a British minister said on Monday. James Cleverly, Britain’s Foreign Office minister for Middle East and North Africa, said that the incarceration of British-Iranian nationals such as Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is “completely unacceptable and inappropriate” and should be kept separate from ongoing legal disputes between the two countries. It comes after Iranian state TV on Sunday quoted anonymous sources as saying a deal had been reached for the United Kingdom to pay £400 million ($552 million) to see the release of British-Iranian woman Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

Boris Johnson: Social distancing could be scrapped next month | Maldon and Burnham Standard

There is a “good chance” social distancing will be ditched next month, Boris Johnson has said. The final decision on whether the change can be brought in from June 21 will depend on the data, the Prime Minister added. Mr Johnson said he feels like the next stage of reopening on May 17 – which covers indoor hospitality, entertainment and possibly foreign travel – “is going to be good”. One industry chief has said a return to unrestricted trading for hospitality from June 21 is “critical” and will mean firms can “come off life support”. The comments from Kate Nicholls, chief executive of trade body UKHospitality, came as The Times reported social distancing rules will be lifted to allow pubs, restaurants and theatres to open to full capacity for the first time in more than a year.

I can t vote for any party that won t trust us with freedom says TIM NEWARK

This is, I know, a shocking thing to say because democracy is a hard-won, valued right in our country, but I cannot bring myself to support any mainstream party in local elections on Thursday. Why? Because all of them appear determined to reduce my freedoms, whether it s the lingering restrictions of lockdown or new plans to change our very lifestyles thanks to zero carbon targets. Big government looks set to dominate our lives for possibly decades to come and no one seems to be offering a proper opposition to the rise of this badgering regime. Even our national day of freedom on June 21 now seems imperilled after Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab called for continued wearing of masks and social distancing even though latest daily figures reported only one UK Covid death.
