A Shingletown man convicted of killing a woman and lighting a forest fire to cover up the murder was sentenced Monday to 32 years to life in prison.
Frank Alexander Berry, 51, was arrested and charged in August of 2018 after officials found the body of Anna Louise Coker, 50, in Lassen National Forest while fighting a 2-acre fire. Investigators said the two had been dating for several weeks before her death.
About 20 people, including Coker’s family, were present for the hearing, enough to cause a change in venue to a larger courtroom due to COVID-19 spacing restrictions.
They wore shirts with her name and shirts with her photo. Through masks, some spoke about her love for family and faith. They recalled past memories, and with tears, mourned the ones they could no longer make. They asked a judge to give Berry the maximum possible sentence, which Berry received.
