High school senior Owen Wagner was recognized as a Triple “A” award nominee at the Park Rapids School Board meeting on Monday.
According to Activities Director Jeremy Nordick, the award recognizes achievement in academics, arts and athletics. To be eligible, a high school senior must have at least a 3.0 grade point average, participate in at least one league sport and one arts activity, and follow the MSHSL’s code of conduct.

High School Principal Jeff Johnson told the Park Rapids School Board on Tuesday that his staff has been meeting with approximately 80 students in grades 9-11 who failed a class either last spring or during the fall trimester to plan credit recovery.
“We want to get them on track as soon as possible,” he said. “About 70-80 percent of them want to start doing it now, after school.”

It has been a busy few weeks at Park Rapids Area Schools. Students have returned to in-person learning, and our athletes are back to competing. While we are not back to “normal,” these recent steps are certainly encouraging.
If the difficulties of the pandemic taught us anything, it is the value of having students in the classroom, collaborating with teachers and peers. Today, we have an opportunity to improve these learning spaces and position our district for success in the decades to come. After engaging residents, community leaders and independent experts over the past two years, we concluded that our school buildings could no longer support our growing enrollment and the wide range of educational programming necessary to prepare our students for life after graduation.

Middle school science teacher Morgan Marcussen updated the Park Rapids School Board on Feb. 1 about plans for a school trip to Washington, D.C., this summer.
“We are going still, July 8-11, and the company has just updated some safety protocols,” Marcussen reported via Zoom. “I just wanted to let you guys know some of the things they’re going to do to keep everybody safe.”
She described the tour group’s COVID-19 protocols, including daily health screenings and temperature checks, mask wearing, handwashing, complying with in-flight requirements and traveling around Washington with a charter bus all to themselves.
