CASSIA – An 87-year-old Lake Mary motorcyclist is dead after a crash in Cassia, between Eustis and DeLand.
According to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol, a 56-year-old Eustis man driving a pickup truck with a trailer was traveling westbound on State Road 44.
The driver attempted to make a left turn, and turned into the path of the motorcyclist, who struck the right side of the truck.
The Lake Mary man was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene.
MOUNT DORA – With the departure of Mount Dora City manager Robin Hayes, the city s search for a new police chief has been put on hold.
In a press release, Mayor Cathy Hoechst announced that Brett Meade will remain as the interim chief for the present.
“Although change can be difficult and challenging, I believe the City of Mount Dora has the professional management staff and employees to keep our city moving forward doing the day-to-day activities in addition to focusing on the different projects we have,” she wrote.
The city sent out a press release late Tuesday, announcing Mount Dora and Hayes agreed to part ways. Further details were scant at the time.
