The national security advisers (NSA) of Pakistan and the United States met in the US capital on Thursday, where they discussed the urgent need for reduction in violence and a negotiated political settlement in Afghanistan .
NSA Moeed Yusuf and his American counterpart Jake Sullivan waited till Thursday evening to confirm their meeting, posting brief tweets stating that their talks also covered other issues of mutual interest.
This was the second meeting between the two officials who first met in Geneva in March.

Blinken to visit India next week
The administration of US President Joe Biden has announced that Secretary of State Antony Blinken will visit India next week.
The State Department said on Friday that Blinken will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The department said they will discuss a wide range of issues, including Indo-Pacific engagement, shared regional security interests, shared democratic values, and addressing the climate crisis, as well as the response to the coronavirus pandemic.
The officials are also expected to talk about a plan to hold the first in-person summit of leaders from Japan, the US, Australia and India, a grouping known as the Quad. The Biden administration sees the framework as an important to its efforts to counter China.

The failure of China and India to resolve the standoff over their disputed border in the western Himalayas, despite an agreement last year, is not in the interest of either side, India s foreign minister told his Chinese counterpart on Wednesday.
