New Delhi–China on Friday assured India that it would do everything to support the latter’s fight against the second wave of Covid pandemic which has taken a heavy toll on the country.
An official statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs said that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar had a phone conversation on Friday evening with the State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China, Wang Yi.
“The call was arranged at the request of the Chinese side to convey their sympathy and solidarity with India at this juncture,” the statement said.

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar agreed that India’s health infrastructure “stands exposed” as the country is in the midst of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, but blamed previous governments for the state of public health in the country.

New Delhi [India], May 6 (ANI): India, France and Australia are committed to advancing their shared values and working together to achieve a free, open, inclusive and rules-based Indo-Pacific, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said a joint statement issued by all three countries after meeting on the sidelines of the G7 Foreign Ministers Meeting.
This comes after External Affairs Minister (EAM), Dr S Jaishankar, France s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Yves Le Drian and Australia s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Senator Marise Payne, met in London for the first India-France-Australia Trilateral Ministerial Dialogue on 4 May.
New style of diplomacy does not resolve issues
An extra-terrestrial being (ETB) observing our world for centuries might wonder whether the pandemic has diminished diplomatic skills of the professional diplomats and their political bosses. She might take note that starting from the dawn of the 21st century, if not from the collapse of the Cold War in the early 1990s, diplomacy as practiced has been proving itself less and adequate to the resolution of problems in inter-state relations. Often the new style of diplomacy has aggravated the disputes, instead of resolving them.
Permit me to give an example of the old diplomacy. In the early 1970s, I was First Secretary in Vienna. I remember even today, after more than 50 years, Australia’s coming out with a proposal at the Board of Governors of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency). India had not signed the NPT (Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty) and Australia’s intent was to reduce the role of the non-signatories in the IAE

SUPERMARKET bosses in Jersey have warned shelves will be empty by Saturday unless the Royal Navy can stop French trawlers blockading the island s port.
Stocks of bread, fruit, fresh meat and vegetables will be gone if freight ships cannot deliver their crucial daily supplies, CEO of Jersey Co-op Mark Cox said.
