Nepal’s army has told its retired medical staff to be ready to be recalled for duty to help manage the growing Covid-19 crisis in the country.
Army Spokesperson Santosh Ballav Poudel told CNN that the decision was made at a meeting held by the Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa on Wednesday.
Nepal’s army has already been drafted to help build the necessary infrastructure for isolation facilities and coordinated the management of the remains of Covid-19 victims.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is in London to attend the G-7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting, has been made aware of exposure to possible Covid-19 possible cases and is taking all precautions. Indian officials are trying to work out with the UK health authorities what needs to be done, said sources.
“There are concerns that the External Affairs Minister may have been exposed to the virus sometime. We are trying to work out with the UK health authorities the level of exposure and what needs to be done. For the moment delegation members are in isolation. The Minister is hale and hearty . Other members of delegation are also well,” a source closely tracking the matter told

The United Kingdom has a set of protocols that will be used to deal with the situation that has come up after two members of the Indian delegation led by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to the G7 Foreign Ministers meeting tested positive for COVID-19, said an official of the British High Commission here.
During a press interaction, British High Commissioner Alex Ellis said officials in London will determine the course of action to be followed to safeguard the health of those involved in the event.
