As part of preparing for an experiment aboard the International Space Station, researchers explored new ways to culture living heart cells for microgravity research.
The 22nd SpaceX cargo resupply mission carrying scientific research and technology demonstrations launches to the International Space Station from NASA s Kennedy Space Center in Florida no earlier than June 3. Experiments aboard include studying how water bears tolerate space, whether microgravity affects symbiotic relationships, analyzing the formation of kidney stones, and more.
SpaceX is set to send its 22nd resupply mission to the ISS next month
The cargo will include Tardigrades, squid, cotton, tissue chips and ultrasounds
Experts hope to identify genes that allow Tardigrades to survive harsh environments, which could be used to find ways to better protect astronauts
Squid will be studied to see how spaceflight impacts symbiotic relationships
Tissue chips will a 3D kidney model that will study formation of kidney stones
Astronauts will study the impact of microgravity on cotton plants
They hope to identify what makes cotton so resilient on Earth
