Quick note: The new feature update will download and begin to install automatically. However, if it is not offered to you automatically, under the Feature update to Windows 10, version 21H1 section, click the
Download and install option to trigger the upgrade.
Click the
Restart now button.
Once you complete the steps, the May 2021 Update (build 19043.928, 19043.964, or higher) will install on the device. If you already had version 20H2 or 2004, the installation process will take only a few minutes because the system will need to download only an enablement package to switch versions. However, if you plan to upgrade from version 1909 or an older release, you can still install version 21H1, but the process will require full reinstallation.

The version naming seems to be a pretty trivial and tangential feature to latch onto when discussing the utility of a update.
Thom’s comment is even more cryptic, because I think he has previously posted that he uses Linux in preference to Microsoft, so why would he keep track of Microsoft versioning in the first place?
So it would be nice to comment on the fixes and features, and not just open the debate by throwing rocks about a version name!
One feature I was interested in was the ability to now use an external camera as a Hello utility. That is quite interesting, is it a potential security risk, could a thug pipe in a feed from some remote USB webcam and get access without the users knowledge!

Microsoft said Wednesday that it has finalized the next major version of Windows 10, formally named the Windows 10 May 2021 Update, for release in the near future.
The Windows 10 May 2021 Update will also be known as version 21H1. It will probably appear as “21H1” when users launch the
winver command after Microsoft begins pushing the update to client PCs. Microsoft hasn’t given a formal date for when that push will begin.

Microsoft Releases Final Windows 10 Build for May 2021 Update
Just a few days ahead of May, Microsoft has released the final build for Windows 10 as part of its May 2021 updates. The Windows maker has confirmed that the build version 19043.928 for the 21H1 updates will be the final one available for direct download.

The new update is already available for Windows Insiders in the Beta and Release Preview Channels.
