Housing crunch hits home

Don t miss the big stories. Like us on Facebook.   SOUTH LONDONDERRY — State Rep. Kelly Pajala knows a lot of people have been dealing with a lack of affordable housing options in Vermont. Now, the crisis has arrived at Pajala’s front door, uninvited. The condominium Pajala has rented for six years in Londonderry is not listed for sale. But that didn’t stop someone from inquiring of its owner about the possibility of buying the unit. That could leave Pajala, I-Windham-Bennington-Windsor, and her two children in the lurch. While the owner, Tom Ettinger of Weston, said that a formal purchase offer has not been made, Pajala said a showing has been scheduled. And she is anxious about what the future holds.

Flood Brook School hires Amy Harlow as principal

LONDONDERRY — Amy Harlow has been hired to serve as the new principal at Flood Brook School. Superintendent Randi Lowe of the Bennington-Rutland Supervisory Union announced the hire at the Taconic & Green Regional School District board Tuesday. “I am pleased and excited to share that we have hired a new principal for the Flood Brook School,” Lowe wrote in her report to the T&G board. Harlow is currently the principal at Washington Village Campus of the Echo Valley Community School District, which is part of the Central Vermont Supervisory Union. The Washington Village School serves students in grades pre-K through fourth grade in the towns of Orange and Washington. The school was formerly pre-K through eighth grade before it was split into two campuses, Lowe wrote.

LTS, Flood Brook deal with more COVID cases

Two schools announced additional COVID-19 cases recently. Long Trail School Head of School Seth Linfield said LTS had three students in two families test positive and Flood Brook School has announced three additional positive tests. Both schools were able to maintain in-class school with quarantines for the individuals involved and close contacts. LTS Linfield said the students had been on campus but the school s health team in coordination with the Vermont Department of Health determined that it was safe to return to live classes. The students who tested positive and close contacts were notified and went remote. We will keep you informed consistent with our ethical and privacy obligations, Linfield wrote in an email to families. We wish a speedy recovery for our students who are ill.
