Baltimore-area Catholic churches open for Easter with COVID-19 precautions

Print Lowell Melser, WBAL-TV All Baltimore-area Catholic churches are open this year for Easter with mask wearing and 6 -foot distancing. Good Friday Passion of the Lord service took place at 3 p.m. Friday at the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. Some churches have chosen to take their services outdoors, also with social distancing. At the cathedral, people had to pre-register for weekend services. Baltimore Archbishop William Lori, who presided over Friday s service, told 11 News how this Easter feels much different than it did last year. Our churches were basically closed last year. This year, the pandemic is still very much with us. We continue to grieve those who lost their lives, and those whose personal and economic situations have worsened, but I think there is light at the end of the tunnel. Some of the restrictions have eased up a bit. I sense that people are ready to get on with their lives and also to come back to church, Lori said.
