Two local high school seniors named U S Presidential Scholars

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, established in 1964, recognizes the country s most distinguished graduating high school seniors, according to the U.S. Department of Education s website. The White House Commission on Presidential Scholars selects students based on their academic success, essays, school evaluations, transcripts, community service, leadership and demonstrated commitment to high ideals. The program has honored over 7,600 students since its creation. The program expanded in 1979 to recognize students in the arts and those who excel in career and technical education fields. Kasey was recognized this year as a U.S. Presidential Scholar in the Arts. Kasey started playing the piano 11 years ago. She said she was a very active child growing up and her mom introduced her to the instrument as a way to get her to sit down and concentrate on something.

Two North Iowa High School Students Named U S Presidential Scholars – KCHA News

markp1 week agoLast Updated: May 13, 2021 Two northern Iowa students are among just 161 high school seniors nationally to be honored as part of the 57th class of U.S. Presidential Scholars. Lucas Ian Pierce of Nashua-Plainfield High School, plus Molly Ann Niewoehner of Sumner-Fredericksburg High School were recognized for their accomplishments in academics, the arts, and career and technical education fields. Niewoehner was also named a U.S. Presidential Scholar in career and technical education. U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona Thursday announced the students being honored and joined President Biden in saluting the outstanding young people for their achievements, service, character and continued pursuit of excellence.
