Big White Ski Resort cancels hundreds of reservations in response to COVID-19 cluster | iNFOnews

December 18, 2020 - 2:30 PM Big White Ski Resort’s cancellation of all reservations made by people from outside the Central Okanagan was about making a statement, according to the ski hill s senior vice-president Michael J. Ballingal. But that action makes up only a small part of the financial damage done by the COVID-19 pandemic since 80 per cent of such reservations for the Christmas and new year period had already been cancelled by the skiers themselves. It also won’t stop all of those out-of-town and out-of-province skiers from going to Big White. The decision to cancel the reservations up until Jan. 8, was made by Big White s owners after a cluster of positive COVID-19 tests amongst 60 people either working at or associated with the resort. That number grew to 76 today, Dec. 18.

The Great Okanagan Winter Staycation

The Great Okanagan Winter Staycation Ski, snowshoe, snowmobile, skate, hike, stay overnight, spa, sip wine and craft beer, dine in a dome or order in. Staycation and daycation options in the Okanagan abound. True, there s no turquoise ocean, the temperature isn t 30C and the palm trees aren t swaying as they would be in Hawaii or Mexico. However, while COVID travel restrictions rule out a tropical paradise this winter, a rejuvenating mini-break, be it a couple of hours, weekend or week, in the Okanagan is oh-so doable. We all have to do things differently this winter, admits Vincent Pouget, the general manager at Walnut Beach Resort in Osoyoos.
