The Presser Foundation Announces Nearly $2 Million in New Capital Support Grants

PHILADELPHIA, April 19, 2021 /PRNewswire/ In a continued response to the COVID-19 pandemic and its devastating impact on the Greater Philadelphia Area s rich ecosystem of music performance, education, and community engagement, The Presser Foundation announces new Capital Support grants to thirty-five music organizations. These grants, totaling $1,954,200 and paid over six years provides both single year and multi-year support to music organizations. The Foundation will also make payments on previous and deferred commitments totaling an additional $547,500. A full listing by category of the forty-four grantee organizations is below.

In-person entertainment continues to reawaken throughout the state, with two more venues in Morristown coming to life this weekend:
♦ The Morris Museum at 6 Normandy Road will kick off another round of outdoor jazz and classical concerts on its back parking deck 7 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, April 15, with Amani performing the songs of Lionel Richie. Rain date is April 16.

Michael Ray Johnston, 64, of Charlotte, North Carolina, died February 22. Born July 3, 1956, in Charlotte, he graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1974. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, North Carolina, in 1978 and a Master of Music degree in church music from Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey, in 1980. After piano study with Flora Neely and vocal study as a teenager with Harvey L. Woodruff, he studied voice with Julie Fortney and William Thomas at Mars Hill and Marvin Keenze at Westminster. His organ study was with Donna Robertson at Mars Hill and William Hays at Westminster, and conducting studies were with Joel Stegall at Mars Hill and Joseph Flummerfelt at Westminster.
