A farewell cerebration honoring the Rev. Donna MacArt Havrisko for her 18 years of service with Westminster Presbyterian Church will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the church, located at 1120 Harvey Ave., Greensburg.
The event will be âan opportunity to wish well and say goodbye in the most meaningful and safe way in this strange time. You may bring any farewell gifts or letters that you might want to give, but please do not expect to stay for any extended period of time. In the interest of keeping everyone safe and comfortable, we will encourage a receiving line format, and we would wish to prevent any gatherings of people.â

Retiring in the midst of a pandemic requires a different kind of farewell ceremony, which is what will happen Saturday for the minister at the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Greensburg.
A socially-distant farewell is planned for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday for the Rev. Donna Havrisko, who is retiring after 18 years in the pulpit of the church along Route 819 in Hempfield. Her last day at Westminster Presbyterian will be Sunday.
Havrisko said she will be inside the church for those who want to get out of their cars and say goodbye, or will go outside to say farewell to parishioners who feel safer wishing her good luck in retirement from the safety of their vehicles.
Hugh Gould Nevin Jr.
SLINGERLANDS The Reverend Dr. Hugh Gould Nevin Jr. of Slingerlands died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 22, 2021 one week shy of his 88th birthday after a battle with cancer.
“Hugh was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the son of Hugh Gould Nevin, a successful banker, and Eda McCoy Nevin, a vibrant Wellesley College grad,” his family wrote in a tribute. “Both his father and mother were descendants of the original Scots-Irish settlers of western Pennsylvania. (Hugh had a passionate interest in family genealogy, his history of the Nevin family name becoming one of his two published books.) Pittsburgh also left its mark on Hugh as a life-long Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan!”

BOARDMAN Alice “Joan” Borsh, who spent 72 years in the same Boardman home, left us at 95 years old on Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021.
“Even before the coronavirus struck, society was dealing with heightened levels of anxiety and depression. Then came COVID-19 and, as a result, we’re all more isolated than ever. ‘Life is hard’ has become a mantra for many of us. But the death of a loved one has a tendency to put things in perspective.”
“Joan leaves a legacy, more memories to fit on this page, and an incredibly strong family who will miss her dearly. When you wake up on the wrong side of the bed, or you’re having a hard day and life seems overwhelming, think of Joan’s story.”
