Provided photo Last year, Mississinawa Valley art teacher Ashley Austerman applied to the Ohio Arts Council for a grant enabling her to bring a professional artist to her classroom to establish an often-requested photography course; the project would also reach out to the community at large, providing various opportunities for engagement with the arts. Mrs. Austerman’s well-thought out plan was approved and received funding; other community entities including Darke County Endowment for the Arts, who granted the amount needed to purchase digital cameras, contributed to the project which was enthusiastically embraced by MV students. Early voting opens for Cotter special election

Early voting for the City of Cotter’s May 11 special election opens tomorrow morning at the Baxter County Courthouse. The city is asking voters to approve a 1% sales and use tax to finance improvements to the city’s sewer system. Early voting will continue at the courthouse through Monday, May 10. Early voting hours are 8-4:30 with no voting available on Saturday or Sunday. On Tuesday, May 11, voting will be available at Wesley United Methodist Church between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. The church is located at 179 Memory Lane in Cotter. Votes will be counted at Cotter City Hall, located at 115 McLean Avenue, once the polls close on election night.

Bond approval would build and buy equipment for athletic and recreational facilities for the district s two new high schools to be completed in fall 2024. This is the second time the district has tried to pass a bond for sports and recreational facilities, with an effort in November failing.  Election Day will be 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Saturday at the following locations.
