NATCHITOCHES â A controversial call in the bottom of the ninth inning took what appeared to be a win away from McNeese in the second game of Saturdayâs doubleheader against Northwestern State, and two innings later, the Demons walked off with a 6-5 win to capture the Southland Conference series three games to one.
With McNeese leading 4-3 in the ninth and the tying run on third base, Cowboy relief pitcher Christian Vega appeared to have struck out a Demon batter swinging for the third out to capture the win. But as the Cowboys emptied the dugout to celebrate the win, the third base umpire ruled the batter foul-tipped the ball and extending the at-bat.

LAKE CHARLES â McNeese designated hitter Nate Collins drove a two-out, two-strike pitch into the left-centerfield gap with the bases loaded, scoring all three runners in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Cowboys a 5-3 lead over UT Arlington while pitchers Jonathan Ellison, Hunter Reeves and Cameron Foster prevailed the rest of the way to secure the win and snapping a seven-game skid.
McNeese improves to 19-21 on the season and will host New Orleans in Southland Conference play beginning Friday to start a four-game series. UTA fell to 19-21 on the season.
