Bradford businesses urged to Covid-19 test workers to bring infection rate down

BUSINESSES in Bradford are being encouraged by the local Chamber of Commerce to engage in a testing programme to stem the infection rate of Covid-19. A pilot scheme which has involved businesses with large numbers of staff unable to work from home conducting weekly tests, has now been backed up by a national government offer for those with more than 50 staff. West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce has been working with Bradford Council and NHS representatives to help facilitate, first, the local pilot and now the national scheme in the fight against the pandemic. The business support organisation has been sharing information to help support the economy, and is now calling on local businesses to consider regular testing of their staff.

Hope for Keighley s high street businesses – but fears for pub and brewery trade

CONFIDENCE has been voiced that Keighley s high street businesses CAN bounce back from the ravages of Covid-19. Sector bosses in the town have moved to allay fears – mirrored nationally – that many retailers may not reopen post-lockdown. But the head of a famous Keighley brewery has warned that the Government s roadmap unveiled this week will be disastrous for the brewing and pub industry. There has already been one major change to the town s retail picture in recent weeks. Toyland, better known over the years as Conways, has moved out of the Cavendish Street shop it had occupied for over half a century and is looking for alternative premises in the town.

Firefighters called to Keighley Farmfoods store in early hours of the morning

FIREFIGHTERS were called to the Keighley Farmfoods store in the early hours of the morning. The alarm was raised at around 2am at store, which is in the Airedale Shopping Centre. Watch Commander Mick Rhodes, from Keighley Fire Station, said there had been an electrical fault in a stack freezer, as the transformer had overheated. Firefighters, who were at the scene for around an hour, isolated the electrics, moved the freezer outside and used fans to clear the building of smoke.  No lasting damage has been caused.
