LAKE ELSINORE, CA On March 1, Lake Elsinore will have a new city manager one who s familiar with the territory.
Tuesday, the Lake Elsinore City Council voted to appoint Assistant City Manager Jason Simpson to the top job starting March 1. He will follow in the footsteps of current City Manager Grant Yates, who announced last month that he would retire at the end of February.
The City Council met in closed session to discuss the matter and directed the City Attorney to prepare an employment agreement for formal approval by the City Council at an upcoming meeting, a city statement read. According to the California State Controller s Office, Yates total wages were $246,810 in 2019, the most recent year figures were available.

LOS ANGELES, CA Los Angeles County health officials sought to get through to residents just how dire the coronavirus outbreak is in Los Angeles County despite the numbing effects of months of warnings.
Countywide, there were nearly 18,000 new cases 297 deaths confirmed Thursday, and the anticipated surge caused by holiday gatherings likely hasn t resulted in hospitalizations or deaths yet. Hospitals and morgues remain overwhelmed, and the more contagious U.K. variant of the disease is likely to become widespread by March in Los Angeles. According to county estimates, about a third of all Los Angeles County residents have already had the coronavirus sometime over the last year.

CONCORD, NH The death of a Penacook woman found inside her apartment on Monday is not believed to be suspicious, according to Concord police.
At around 10:30 a.m., officers were sent to the Penwood Apartment complex on Penwood Drive for a check the welfare call about a missing woman who no one had heard from or seen in months, according to dispatch. The woman had not paid her rent in two months, had not moved her vehicle from the complex, and did not answer her apartment door or phone calls, and the building manager requested assistance.

DOUGLASTON, QUEENS Anastasia Sund, a longtime fixture of the Benjamin N. Cardozo High School community as a parent-teacher association president and an employee, died Jan. 3 at her home in Douglaston. She was 75.
Sund, who was known to the Cardozo community as Ann, worked as the secretary to the principal s office for nearly three decades and led the school s PTA when her two daughters were among the students.
Even after Sund s daughters graduated from Cardozo in 1997 and 1999, Principal Meagan Colby the fourth and last principal to work with her said that Sund, in a sense, still had a child roaming the halls.

Poffenbarger has graduated from high school and has enrolled in classes at UConn head coach Geno Auriemma announced Friday. I know Saylor s really excited. This is an unprecedented event for us for a lot of reasons, but this is an unprecedented year, Auriemma said. Opportunities have presented themselves that weren t available for the past. I m excited for Saylor and her family that they wanted to take advantage of this opportunity and I can t wait to coach her in practice and have her as part of the team.
