Buckner, Wayland agreement provides more student opportunities

Nonprofit Buckner International and Wayland Baptist University announced this week the launch of a collaboration to give students opportunities to better serve their community and learn about ministry and service.
Buckner and WBU will collaborate to provide volunteer and missions opportunities, humanitarian aid drives and enhanced experiential learning opportunities for WBU students, according to a news release from Buckner.
“This collaboration with Wayland Baptist University provides Buckner with an opportunity to strengthen students understanding of mission, leadership and social work through practical experience,” said Albert Reyes, president and CEO of Buckner International in the release. “The new opportunities will support WBU’s ongoing commitment to creating a transformative environment of faith and innovative learning.”

Starting this column with “it’s been a rough” year doesn’t seem quite right. The year undoubtedly had its share of disappointment, fear, sadness and anxiety. It was gloomy but I hope you view 2021 as sort of beacon of hope.

Braum’s Ice Cream & Burger Restaurant, Sutherlands HomeBase, Toot’n Totum – those are all new businesses that have filed permits and are in the midst of construction projects in Plainview.
The list of new businesses in Plainview also includes several local ventures – Santa’s Mercantile & More, Thai Café and Something Different, to name a few.

A recipient of the University of Alaska Scholar’s award, Vo graduated from the University of Alaska Anchorage with a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting. Larson has been promoted to director of Sales for the outside and inside sales operations of AIH and General Hardware Distributors. Larson has been with the company for nine years in outside sales focusing on key accounts and helping to grow new product lines. PLAINVIEW â Wayland Baptist University and the Plainview ISD announced a new partnership between the schools, creating the Plainview Collegiate High School. Students completing the program will graduate high school with either an associateâs degree or 60 college credits. There is no cost to the student. The endeavor is associated with the Texas Education Agencyâs Early College High School program.
Plainview ISD Superintendent Dr. H.T. Sanchez said the partnership is a positive step in educating Plainview students, and reinforces the importance of education.
