USS Laboon Conducts Port Visit in Souda Bay > United States Navy > News-Stories

Laboon’s liberty port visit to Souda Bay provided Sailors the opportunity to relax from underway operations and a chance to venture out in town while, being in compliance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Defense and host nation COVID-19 mitigation measures. All personnel who participated in the port visit are fully vaccinated. “We are all ambassadors of the United States whenever we visit different countries and Laboon’s crew performed exceptionally well during our time in Souda Bay,” said Cmdr. Charles Spivey, commanding officer USS Laboon (DDG 58). “It was a great opportunity for our Sailors to experience the sights and sounds of Greece. Laboon is the first ship to conduct off-base liberty in the U.S. Sixth Fleet area of operations in over a year since the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic and was able to reach a 98% vaccination rate across the command prior to our arrival.”

Rear Admiral Patrick J Hannifin > United States Navy > BioDisplay

Rear Adm. Pat Hannifin is a native of San Diego, California. He was commissioned in 1991 after earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania and Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of San Diego. He is also a graduate of the Joint Advanced Warfighting School (JAWS) and the U.S. Air Force Test Pilot School. Hannifin flew the F/A-18C Hornet with Strike Fighter Squadron 27 (VFA-27)  “Royal Maces” from USS Independence, and then again with VFA-81 “Sunliners” for both department head and executive officer/commanding officer tours from USS George Washington and USS Nimitz, transitioning to F/A-18E Superhornets while in Command. He served as executive officer of USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75); commanding officer of USS Arlington (LPD-24) and commanding officer of USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76).
