As our province’s vaccine program continues to vaccinate more and more Albertans, we continue to take action to protect lives and livelihoods. Alberta’s government has passed legislation that amends the Employment Standards Code to ensure working Albertans can access paid, job-protected leave to get each COVID-19 vaccine. By passing this legislation, we are reducing barriers for Alberta workers to get vaccinated. This means no Albertan will have to choose between getting vaccinated and putting food on the table.  

GoA Looking To Bring In Paid, Job-Protected Leave For COVID-19 Vaccinations

The province is planning to introduce legislation aimed at providing paid leave to get the COVID-19 vaccine. They’re looking to update the Employment Standards Code to ensure working Albertans can access up to three hours to get the shot without worrying about whether they’ll lose their job. “By providing choice without consequence, we continue to protect the lives and livelihoods of all Albertans,” said Jason Copping, Minister of Labour and Immigration. If approved, the changes will take effect immediately. This will impact full and part-time employees, regardless of how long they’ve had the job. “Nobody should have to choose between getting vaccinated and putting food on the table and with this legislation, nobody will have to.”
