Many self-employed workers in Terengganu not contributing to Socso

KUALA TERENGGANU (Feb 14): There is only a moderate level of awareness of contributing to the Social Security Organisation (Socso) among self-employed workers in Terengganu. Terengganu Sosco director Farihah Che Husin said that as of last year, only 3,924 self-employed workers from various sectors had contributed under Socso’s Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (SKSPS) and he estimated that there were about 25,000 people who are self-employed in the state. “What’s more, with the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, many people were laid off and had to be self-employed, such as being food deliverers and so on. So, we hope they contribute immediately in order to have protection in the event of any untoward incident while they are on the job,” she told reporters at the Self-Employment Scheme Registration Programme (SPS), here, today.
