Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (CVUHB) did not confirm which centre was affected, but said anyone identified as a close contact would be asked to self isolate. It comes as new testing sites are being opened around the city due to a surge in cases, with Covid-19 infection rates in the Welsh capital having risen by 90% in the past week alone.
Nine staff members at a mass vaccination centre under the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board have tested positive for coronavirus, NHS bosses have confirmed. Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said some workers have tested positive at the Splott vaccination centre and other staff members are being tested. The other vaccination centres in the health board are at Holm View Leisure Centre in Barry and Pentwyn Leisure Centre. It comes as new testing sites are being opened around the city due to a surge in cases, with Covid-19 infection rates in the Welsh capital having risen by 90% in the past week alone.
The hospital in Llandough is now receiving up to ten new coronavirus patients per day. The news comes days after the health board said they were “extremely concerned” over the sharply increasing cases in the region. The leaders of Cardiff council and the Vale of Glamorgan council, as well as bosses from South Wales Police and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board described a bleak emergency situation as hospital staff are “pushed to the limit”. A spokeswoman for Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: “Over the last week the pressures on the hospital have intensified. As the rate of infection increases in Wales, we are closely monitoring the number of hospital admissions and will open up additional capacity across our sites including University Hospital Llandough as, and when, required. Llandough currently has a total of 58 Covid inpatients, 24 of whom are recovering, and is receiving 4-10 new Covid admissions per day.
PEOPLE with appointments who are due to be vaccinated at the Cardiff and Vale Therapy Centre in Splott should continue as normal, despite nine positive cases coming out of the centre this week, the health board has said. After a full risk assessment was carried out, it was decided on Wednesday that it is safe for people due to be vaccinated to continue as normal. A spokesperson for the Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said: “Further to the news that staff tested positive for Covid 19 at our Mass Vaccination Centre we can confirm that patient facing staff have not been affected, control measures are in place and we are actively testing people as a precaution.
