County supports several House bills

Wednesday, March 31, 2021 During its Tuesday meeting, the Hays County Commissioners Court expressed support of many proposed bills in the 87th regular session of the Texas Legislature, including one that would create a new District Court for the county.  The commissioners await more details of the legislation before writing resolutions of support, but expressed general support of several.  House Bill 37 would establish a public routing process for oil and gas pipelines, requiring companies to go through the same process that governmental entities follow for roads and powerlines. A public routing process would provide landowners with a greater voice and help ensure that the process is fair for all parties.

The district court will go into effect on Sept. 1, 2022. The resolution came after District 45 State Rep. Erin Zwiener introduced various Texas Legislature bills and requested the court to submit its feedback and resolutions on the bills, one of which asked for the creation of the new court.

Study examines safer, faster travel on Highway 21

Thursday, March 11, 2021 The long range “corridor preservation study” began in February 2020 to cover a 17-mile stretch of State Highway 21 from State Highway 80 to State Highway 130.  Hays County Commissioners Court approved the start of the initial study phase of the project which was co-sponsored by Commissioners Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe, Precinct 1, and Mark Jones, Precinct 2. “This is Hays County living up to a long-term commitment,” said Ingalsbe, the county commission’s senior member. Her district stretches from the south and east sides of San Marcos through Uhland and the east side of Kyle, along the Hays-Caldwell county line, with SH 21 as the boundary.

Commissioners approve 2 new election precincts

Tuesday, March 9, 2021 The Hays County Commissioners Court approved the creation of two new election precincts during its regular meeting Tuesday. The commissioners court is required to review county election precinct boundaries to keep them in compliance, according to the Texas Election Code, which allows a maximum number of registered voters per precinct of 5,000.  The elections administration office found two precincts between Driftwood and Wimberley to be approaching that maximum.  Precinct 333 which had approximately 4,111 registered voters and Precinct 449 which had around 4,755, not including voters in suspense, have now been split into Precincts 320 with 1,760 registered voters, Precinct 333 with 2,440 registered voters, and Precinct 449 with 2,770 and Precinct 450 with 2,090. Voter registration changes daily so numbers reported will fluctuate daily.
