Hays County records 89 recoveries from COVID-19, 82 new cases Friday

Friday, April 23, 2021 The Hays County Local Health Department reported 89 additional recoveries from COVID-19, 82 new lab-confirmed cases, three hospital discharges and one hospitalization on Friday, which included information from April 21-22.  The county considers 617 cases active seven fewer than Wednesday and there have been 18,061 total cases since the first diagnosis of the virus within its boundaries on March 14, 2020. Hays County has tallied 877 COVID-19 cases over the past 21 days. There have been 1,965 probable cases spanning from April 2020 through April 23, 2021. Thirteen county residents are currently hospitalized by COVID-19 and there have been 833 total hospitalizations with the fluctuation in hospitalizations and hospital discharges reported Friday. Some patients hospitalized by COVID-19 are in hospitals outside of Hays County but are included in the county’s numbers if they reside within Hays County, the local health department said.

Michele Dupont The Hays County Local Health Department reports 82 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 89 recoveries April 23, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 18,061, total active cases to 617 and recoveries to 17,205. The county reports the total active cases in the past 21 days is 877. San Marcos, Kyle and Buda have 245, 159 and 121 active cases, respectively. According to Epidemiologist Eric Schneider, the total number of received negative tests in the county is now 156,498. The total number of hospitalizations is 833 and total current hospitalizations is 13 after one person was hospitalized and three were discharged. The total number of fatalities in the county is 239.

Commissioners Court declares National Infant Immunization Week, provides COVID-19 vaccination updates

The Hays County Commissioners Court adopted proclamations declaring April 24 through May 1 as National Infant Immunization Week at its April 20 meeting. Hays County Medical Epidemiologist Eric Schneider discussed the importance of encouraging parents to vaccinate their children. He says it takes a community effort to make public health programs work effectively. The Hays County Local Health Department wants to use National Infant Immunization Week to encourage parents to vaccinate their children on time, and to be sure to complete all of the recommended series of doses,” Schneider says. While on the topic of vaccinations, Schneider says the Hays County Local Health Department and Live Oak Health Partners will provide free COVID-19 vaccines from 8-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. on May 3-4. No appointment or insurance is necessary to receive a vaccine.
