Two lanes on M60 closed due to serious incident

Two lanes on the M60 motorway have been closed with traffic also having to be stopped. The M60 clockwise from junction 17 Whitefield/Prestwich to junction 18 at Simister Island have been closed to what is described as a serious accident . The accident is causing very slow traffic in the area which is queuing back to junction 14 for the M61 past Bolton. North West Motorway Police have described the incident as serious due to an accident involving a lorry. Emergency services, including an ambulance and motorway police are said to be at the scene. While our patrols along with Highways England patrols are dealing with a serious incident on M60, there are certain drivers who think it is in order to use the hard shoulder while in tailbacks or try to breach blocks put in place for safety, we are monitoring CCTV footage

The collision happened close to junction 18 for Simister Island, police said. It is not known what the pedestian s condition is, with a large number of emergency vehicles, including an ambulance and police, spotted in the area.  The M60 clockwise from junction 17 Whitefield/Prestwich to junction 18 at Simister Island was shut following the incident. Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers arrived at the scene this morning. A force spokesman said: Police were called at around 11am on Saturday to a report of a collision between a pedestrian and a lorry on the M60 close to junction 18. Emergency services are in attendance. Two lanes on M60 closed due to collision between van and car

Two lanes were closed on the M60 this morning with traffic queuing due to a collision. Debris was left on the road due to an accident between a car and a van on the M60 clockwise at junction 17 with Bury New Road. Traffic was queuing back to junction 12 at the Eccles Interchange with traffic officers at the scene. Extra travel time went over 40 minutes with delays also being seen on the M61 heading towards Manchester. All lanes were reopened around 8:35am, with delays still taking effect.
