More than a year into the COVID-19 pandemic, Oneida County has seen its biggest case cluster, County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. said during a briefing Tuesday on the situation.
“Multiple” students from a local dance school which Picente declined to name despite widespread social media chatter about the school participated in a competition in Syracuse on Saturday despite the fact that they were experiencing symptoms of illness, Picente said. The students later tested positive for COVID-19, he said.
“A year into this, this is our largest cluster, our fastest cluster that has happened,” Picente said.
The dance school did not, Picente noted, have a state-mandated plan for high-risk sports.
