FORT MILL, S.C. (WBTV) - South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster announced Tuesday the state is purchasing 235 new school buses.
According to the governor’s office, the buses are being purchased with a second round of Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust funds. In 2017, the company admitted it installed devices to cheat on emissions test.
State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman said this announcement shows South Carolina is fully committed to providing the safest, most efficient and environmentally-conscious school buses in the nation.

Governor McMaster and South Carolina Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman announced the new program yesterday.
The state s share of the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust will be used to buy 235 new propane-fueled school buses.
It will also go toward the purchase of three electric transit buses to be used in Charleston and Florence.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC/AP) - The second round of funding from the stateâs share of the Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust will be invested in propane fueled buses.
Governor Henry McMaster, Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman and Department of Insurance Director Ray Farmer made the announcement Tuesday and they say the funds will update the stateâs aging school bus fleet.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) – New school buses will soon be hitting the roads of Horry County.
Ryan Brown, spokesperson for the State Department of Education, said Horry County Schools will receive 25 new propane buses from the state.
With the new additions, HCS will now have 72 propane buses in its fleet, Brown added.
The buses are being purchased with a second round of Volkswagen Environmental Mitigation Trust funds, according to the governor’s office.
