Authorities said Sunday that the 22-year-old man went into the water alone on Daytona Beach before the lifeguard tower opened. Capt. A.J. Miller, a spokesman for Volusia County Beach Safety, says witnesses saw the man struggle in the surf and go under the water. The bystanders brought the man to shore and began CPR before paramedics arrived and took him to a hospital. Miller says the man is alive.

Volusia County Beach Safety said that a 22-year-old male visiting from Jacksonville with his family entered the water by himself on Sunday morning.  They said that he struggled to swim in the surf and was observed going under the water. TRENDING: Thankfully, they said that bystanders brought him to shore and CPR was initiated. EMS soon arrived and performed life-saving care. The man was taken to the hospital and is said to be alive at this time.
