Supreme Court: Robredo would still have won even if Mindanao votes voided
Apr 20, 2021 8:01 AM PHT
The Supreme Court (SC) sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) refused to fully investigate the claims of Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr that there was widespread fraud in 3 Mindanao provinces during the 2016 elections, but said that even if the elections there were annulled, Vice President Leni Robredo would have still won. There is prima facie showing that protestee would still maintain her lead even if we proceed with the third cause of action, the PET said in the 93-page decision written by Associate Justice Marvic Leonen, promulgated in February, but a copy of which was released only on Monday, April 19.
Marcos claims SC set ‘very bad precedent’ in junking VP protest
Apr 20, 2021 7:09 PM PHT
Defeated candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr said the Supreme Court (SC) did him wrong by dismissing his electoral case against Vice President Leni Robredo.
In a statement on Tuesday, April 20, Marcos took issue with the refusal of the SC, acting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), to fully investigate his claims of widespread electoral fraud in Lanao del Sur, Basilan, and Maguindanao during the 2016 elections.
The PET, which recently released a full copy of its ruling, had dismissed the case because Marcos did not sufficiently justify an annulment of elections in the 3 Mindanao provinces – the 3rd and final cause of action in his protest.
EXPLAINER: The fuss about Bongbong Marcos push to annul Mindanao votes
Feb 19, 2021 4:12 PM PHT
The Supreme Court s unanimous dismissal of Bongbong Marcos electoral protest against Vice President Leni Robredo is being disputed by pro-Marcos bloggers and personalities, saying it isn t over yet.
The dispute is rooted in this controversial 3rd cause of action – to annul votes in Lanao del Sur, Basilan, and Maguindanao due to alleged fraud. Annulling votes there would benefit Marcos, who lost by only 263,473 votes in the 2016 vice presidential elections.
We explain the fuss.
First, two sources privy to the decision confirmed to Rappler that the 3rd cause of action was junked in the unanimous dismissal – the reason being that, there was no sufficient justification to annul the votes in those 3 Mindanao provinces.
Robredo’s SC win ‘vindication’ vs poll fraud allegations in ARMM – Hataman
Feb 17, 2021 9:58 AM PHT
Basilan Representative Mujiv Hataman said Vice President Leni Robredo winning the electoral protest she faced is also “vindication” for the now-abolished Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
On Wednesday, February 17, Hataman said the dismissed election case filed by the late dictator’s son Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr had also placed a “large cloud of doubt” over the results of the last ARMM elections in 2016.
“Kaisa po kami ni VP Leni sa pagdiriwang ng tagumpay ng sambayanan. At masaya tayo dahil sa huli, vindicated po ang ARMM sa lahat ng alegasyon ng irregularidad sa eleksyon,” said Hataman in a statement on Wednesday, February 17.
