A former North West police officer has been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for demanding a bribe from a drunk driver.
Thabang Louis Monyane was sentenced for corruption by the Schweizer-Reneke regional court.
“Monyane was sentenced following an incident reported in April 2015 in Bloemhof. At the time of the incident, Monyane was on patrol when he stopped a vehicle and accused the driver of being under the influence of alcohol,” said police spokesperson Col Adéle Myburgh.

Angry South Africans are demanding death sentence for a 34-year-old man who stabbed his seven month pregnant girlfriend to death.
The 27-year-old woman died after being stabbed by her boyfriend during an argument outside her motherâs house in the North West on Saturday, December 19.
Police spokesperson Lt-Col Amanda Funani, who confirmed the incident on Monday, December 21, said the suspect has been arrested and is due to appear soon in the Schweizer-Reneke magistrateâs court.
âThe suspect who is from Taung was visiting the victim at extension 8, Ipelegeng Location. It is alleged the suspect and his seven-month pregnant girlfriend had an argument. The suspect was allegedly accusing the girlfriend of cheating when he is not around,â said Lt-Col Amanda Funani.
