Exhausted, frustrated, facing personal threats and political pressure, public health officials nationwide are departing their posts at a rate never seen before, and in the middle of a pandemic.
More than 180 state and local public health leaders high level health department staffers in at least 38 states have resigned, retired or been fired since April 1, according to an analysis by Kaiser Health News and The Associated Press. It is the largest exodus of public health officials in American history, experts say.

TOPEKA Kansas anticipates getting at least $1.1 billion from the latest federal coronavirus relief package and expects to spend about half of it on K-12 schools, higher education and grants for child care, state data shows.
About $168 million is earmarked for testing, tracing and mitigation and another $26 million is planned for vaccine distribution, according to data provided by J.G. Scott, director of the Kansas Legislative Research Department. How the money is spent is dictated by federal law.

1st Quarter
“They could do better,” said Angie Fisher moments after a Chiefs fumble helped the Bills score their first touchdown.
Fisher, who watched the game at Skinny’s Sports Bar, said she was relieved when she heard that quarterback Patrick Mahomes would play in Sunday’s game. Mahomes suffered a concussion last week and was only cleared to play against the Bills on Friday.
The Chiefs are looking to become the first back-to-back champions since the New England Patriots won Super Bowl 38 and 39 more than a decade ago. The Chiefs will play Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the championship.
