Mumbai, May 31 : In a significant development, seven years since its first Metro line was started in June 2014, Mumbai is all set to get two more north-south Metros, both elevated, in its north-western suburbs.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Monday kicked off the trial runs for the city s 2A Yellow Line and 7 Red Line and other projects, officials said.
Soon after the symbolic green flags were waved by Thackeray, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, Mayor Kishori Pednekar, and other ministers of Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress alliance, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) commenced the trial runs.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray flagged off trial runs for the city’s two new metro rail lines on the Charkop-Dahisar-Aarey route of Metro 2A and 7.
The commissioning of both the lines is planned in two phases, the first phase of 20 kms from Charkop depot / Dahanukarwadi to Aarey by September 2021 and the entire corridor is expected to be completed by January 2022.

On anticipated lines, the Maharashtra government on Thursday announced that it has decided to extend the ongoing stringent lock-down-type restrictions across the state up to 1st June.
The move by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government comes amid rising COVID-19 cases and fatalities in many districts in the state, though Mumbai and parts of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region are currently in a better shape.
