Bayelsa calls for tripartite funding of Akenfa bridge construction

Ewhrudjakpo, who made the call yesterday during a meeting with Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and representatives of Akenfa Community in Yenagoa, explained that the proposed funding arrangement is expected to involve SPDC, NDDC, and the state government. He noted that when completed, the bridge, which is being built across the Epie Creek, will link Akenfa I & II communities, and also serve as a spur to the Igbogene-Onopa Gateway Road.

SPDC spills 276 barrels into N/Delta communities in April 2021

Port Harcourt — The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited, spilled into communities in Rivers and Bayelsa States, a total of 276 barrels of crude oil in three incidents, in April 2021. The 276 barrels of crude is the cumulative volume of spill from a section of the 14-inch Okordia-Rumuekpe pipeline, which transverses Bayelsa and Rivers communities, in the month under review. Data from the oil firm’s spill incident portal indicates that two of the spills were caused by sabotage while one was traced to equipment failure. According to Joint Investigation Visit reports on the incidents, the leaks which occurred at Ikarama community in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on April 7th traceable to equipment failure, caused a leakage of 110 barrels into the environment.

Taming Nigeria’s Oil spillages and gas flaring Scourge By Jerome-Mario Utomi Listen to article The recent news report that the Okordia-Rumekpe 14-inch crude truck line operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) discharged some 213 barrels of crude oil into Ikarama community in Bayelsa, has again brought to our consciousness that though Nigeria prides itself as the giant of Africa and the most populous black nation in the world, yet, it is still riddled with third world challenges. Essentially, while clarifying that an estimated 1.34 hectares of land was polluted by the leakage which followed a rupture on the pipeline, SPDC among other things confirmed that probe into the incident had been concluded, Noting that out of the 213 barrels of SPDC’s bonny light crude stream leak, some 110 barrels are recoverable from the ongoing recovery exercise at the site, leaving an estimated spilled volume at 109.12 barrels.
