IATF considering tighter restrictions in Cebu City

SunStar + February 20, 2021 THE national government might step in again and tighten community quarantine restrictions in Cebu City to tame the surge in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, retired general Melquiades Feliciano said Friday, Feb. 19, 2021. Feliciano said this will depend on the Covid-19 situation next week, when the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases is expected to recommend the new quarantine classifications for the month of March. Cebu City is under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), the least restrictive form, until Feb. 28. Cases of infection, however, have exceeded 100 a day since Jan. 28, and surpassed 200 a day five times in February, based on Department of Health Central Visayas (DOH 7) data.

The additional resources have helped the Cebu City EOC address the spike in coronavirus disease cases.

Hotel occupancy low compared to previous years

SunStar File photo February 13, 2021 DESPITE the recent spike in the number of coronavirus cases in Cebu, hotel occupancy for the weekend is 40 percent. This may be a considerable drop from the 60 to 70 percent occupancy last year or the 80 to 90 occupancy in 2019, but it shows that locals still celebrate Valentine’s Day, said Hotel, Resort and Restaurant Association of Cebu Inc. (HRRACI) president Alfred Reyes. “However, 2019’s turnout was still the best because all restaurants were full and almost all rooms were fully occupied,” he said. He said they expect more couples to do walk-ins on Saturday, Feb. 13, 2021, and on Sunday, Feb. 14.
