May 04, 2021 EIGHTEEN days before he turns 70, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella had himself inoculated with CoronaVac, the vaccine made by Chinese firm Sinovac Biotech, at SM Seaside City Cebu on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.
Labella was accompanied by his wife Joy, a senior citizen who was also vaccinated.
Vice Mayor Michael Rama, 66, was inoculated at Robinsons Galleria Cebu last April.
Labella said he decided not to receive the vaccine on the same day with Rama, his political ally, saying he wanted other senior citizens to be inoculated ahead of him.
The other reason for the delay in getting himself vaccinated was the issuance of a medical certificate by his doctor stating he was in tip-top shape to receive the vaccine, Labella said.

+ April 30, 2021 For the second time this week, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella sought an update on the next shipment of vaccines against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) from the national government.
The City Government was forced to halt the inoculation of senior citizens on Friday, April 23, 2021, after it ran out of vaccines.
On Monday, April 26, Labella asked vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. if the latter would allow Cebu City to purchase vaccines, using the P500 million budget it had set aside for the purpose.
The mayor’s request was turned down. Instead, he was assured that the national government would continue to distribute the vaccines for free to local government units nationwide and that Cebu City would receive the next shipment before the end of the month.

+ April 21, 2021 THE Cebu City government won’t ask for permits from individuals and groups who plan to organize community pantries around the city.
But Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella urged community pantry organizers to coordinate with their respective barangays first before holding their activities so that barangay officials can monitor them for health protocol compliance.
April 20, 2021 TO ENCOURAGE adults 60 years old and above, four Cebu City public officials Vice Mayor Michael Rama, and City Councilors Joy Augustus Young, Lea Japson and Raul Alcoseba set an example by having themselves inoculated against Covid-19 at the vaccination site in Robinsons Galleria Cebu on Tuesday, April 20, 2021, the second day of the vaccination rollout for the city’s elderly population.
Banishing fear from the minds of senior citizens who hesitated getting the Covid-19 vaccine was the aim of their actions, Rama, 66, said after his inoculation with a dose of Sinovac’s vaccine, which has an efficacy rate of just over 50 percent.
