New York Republican gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin, a Long Island congressman, outpaced embattled Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo over the last fundraising quarter.
Cuomo, who is under investigation for his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, sexual harassment allegations, and a multimillion-dollar book deal, was out-raised by his presumed Republican opponent $4 million to $2.3 million.
Since launching his bid on April 8 for governor, Zeldin has raised $4 million in receipts from over 9,000 donors. This includes donors from all 62 counties in New York and over 12,500 donations, 94% of which are $250 or less, and has $3.198 million cash on hand, according to the campaign.
“New Yorkers are fired up and passionately all in to Save our state, and they’re taking action. They know Cuomo’s Gotta Go, and it’s going to take a new generation of leadership to get the job done,” Zeldin said in a statement.
