Cabinet members have raised question over the performance of export-oriented sectors in terms of exports to the international market as there was no data available to verify benefits to the economy.
The cabinet, in a recent meeting, took up the matter of registration of new units for getting incentives on account of electricity and liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply at discounted rates to the export-oriented sectors.

ISLAMABAD: The country is facing severe gas shortage currently, and the crisis is likely to worsen in the next month January, which will adversely affect all sectors including domestic, power and industrial. This was stated by the host of Geo News programme ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’ as well as the participants in the programme.
Shahzeb Khanzada said the gas crisis had been getting worst, and in January it would intensify further. He said in his analysis that the government was well aware of the gas crisis during the winter, but the decisions were not taken timely, neither new LNG terminals were set up nor work on pipeline was launched on time. He said delay in opening tender caused the country on multiple fronts as the gas got expensive and could not adequately be provided to meet the needs of the month of January that may trigger certain gas crisis.
Govt calls bids to import 3 LNG cargoes for March

KARACHI: State-owned importer Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) floated tenders to import 420,000 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for March as energy demand ramps up amid severity of winter cold spells, it was learnt on Monday.
PLL floated a tender to import three LNG cargoes of 140,000 cubic meters each for March. An advertisement by PLL said the country is seeking cargoes – each of 140,000 cubic metres in three delivery windows – and January 15 is the deadline for submission of bids. The first LNG cargo will be delivered on March 9-10, second on March 16-17 and third on March 22-23 on a delivered ex-ship basis, according to PLL.
Construction work on first private sector LNG terminal to start in January

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – A multinational company will start construction on first merchant Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) terminal in the country by end of the next month [January] after the government opened up the energy sector under its ease-of-doing-business strategy.
“A vibrant structural framework is very much in place under which construction work on the first private sector LNG terminal will start by end of the January, while the physical work on another merchant terminal to commence in second half of the year 2021,” a senior official privy to the petroleum sector developments said.

Islamabad [Pakistan], December 21 (ANI): The gas crisis in Pakistan is set to worsen in January 2021, as Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) will face a shortage of 500 mmcfd and will be left with no option but to close down Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) supply to the power sector.
According to The News International, in wake of delay in receiving the LNG cargo from Nigeria, the gas crisis has aggravated in Balochistan and Sindh as Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is not able to retain the RLNG of 200 mmcfd, instead, the intake of RLNG to SSGC has reduced, which has further worsened the gas crisis in Karachi and Quetta.
