SCVNews com | Canyon Country Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash Identified

Medical examiners with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified Caleb Romero, 20, of Canyon Country, as the man killed in a motorcycle crash Wednesday. The crash was reported shortly before 10:45 a.m., near the intersection of Soledad Canyon Road and Commuter Way, according to Sgt. Steve Sgrignoli of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Romero was pronounced dead on the scene, according to the coroner’s office. Initial reports indicate that, for an unknown reason, the motorcycle crashed into the trailer attached to a city of Santa Clarita maintenance vehicle, which reportedly was stopped in the No. 3 lane with its warning lights on, as well as a lighted arrow, directing traffic to the No. 2 lane, according to Sgt. Scott Shoemaker of the SCV Sheriff’s Station Traffic Unit.

Santa Clarita Valley DUI Arrests, Fatalities Down In 2020 In 2020 Santa Clarita DUI arrests decreased slightly compared to 2019, officials said. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office and the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station have released  statistics on DUI arrests made over the last three years, revealing a decrease of roughly 3.5 percent in 2020 compared to 2019, the statistics show. In 2020 alone 955 drivers were arrested for DUI throughout the Santa Clarita Valley. Of those arrested, 684 of those arrests were by CHP officers, said Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office. Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies made 271 arrests, said Sgt. Scott Shoemaker, for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Traffic Office.
