I RECENTLY attended a series of webinars on animal welfare issues, organised by the Scottish animal welfare organisation OneKind. These were very interesting presentations from a range of animal welfare organisations, such as the League Against Cruel Sports and Crustacean Compassion, followed by Q&As. As a floating voter at the forthcoming Scottish elections, any particular political party’s policies and commitments on animal welfare issues will influence how I vote. I was saddened to learn that snares are still used, as are legal traps in Scotland. These snares kill wildlife in the cruelest possible way, but they are also indiscriminate, and cats and dogs have been known to get caught up in snares. We want them banned.
